Fellowship
Fellowship & Ambassador Programme
Building a global community for serious thinking about intelligence.
Thinking About Thinking supports a growing international community of students, researchers, and practitioners working across artificial intelligence, neuroscience, cognitive science, mathematics, robotics, psychology, and related fields.
Our community programmes are designed to support long-term intellectual engagement, not short-term acceleration. They prioritise depth, contribution, and shared inquiry across disciplines.
There are two connected pathways into this community:
Thinking About Thinking Ambassadors—an open, application-based programme
Thinking About Thinking Fellowship—an invitation-only programme for exceptional contributors
Thinking About Thinking Ambassadors
An open programme for students and early-career researchers.
The Thinking About Thinking Ambassador Programme is an application and invitation-based pathway for students and early-career researchers who want to take part in serious, interdisciplinary conversations about intelligence.
Ambassadors support Thinking About Thinking’s conferences, workshops, and community initiatives, helping to extend thoughtful dialogue across universities, disciplines, and countries.
The programme is designed for people who value ideas, collaboration, and community building.
What Ambassadors Do
Ambassadors typically contribute in the following ways:
Supporting the promotion and delivery of events
Sharing seminars, calls for papers, and workshops within their institutions
Co-ordinating local informal meetups and hackathons
Helping to organise local reading groups or viewing sessions
Acting as liaisons between Thinking About Thinking and universities or societies
Participating actively in the community’s discussions and activities
The level of involvement is flexible, but contributions are tracked and recognised.
Who the Programme Is For
The Ambassador Programme is open to:
Undergraduate and postgraduate students
PhD students and early-career researchers
Developers
Individuals working across AI, neuroscience, computer science, mathematics, psychology, and related fields
AI community builders
People who value careful thinking, dialogue, and intellectual humility
No single disciplinary background is required. What matters is curiosity, reliability, and a genuine interest in interdisciplinary inquiry.
Apply to Become a ThAT Ambassador
Applications open periodically throughout the year.
From Ambassador to Fellow
Contribution, not credentials, defines progression.
The Thinking About Thinking Fellowship is a natural progression from the Ambassador Programme.
Ambassadors who consistently demonstrate:
Intellectual engagement
Leadership within the community
Thoughtful contribution across activities
may be invited into the Fellowship.
There is no fixed timeline. Invitations are extended when individuals are ready to take on a deeper role within the community.
Thinking About Thinking Fellowship
An invitation-only programme for exceptional contributors.
The Thinking About Thinking Fellowship is a selective, invitation-only programme for individuals who have demonstrated sustained intellectual contribution within the Thinking About Thinking community.
The Fellowship is designed to support long-term engagement, trust-based dialogue, and interdisciplinary exchange.
The Fellowship Experience
Private Seminars
Fellows participate in a programme of private seminars distinct from public talks or open seminar groups.
These sessions prioritise:
Work-in-progress discussion
Extended Q&A
Critical but constructive dialogue
Some sessions may be recorded; others remain off-the-record to encourage openness.
Events & Gatherings
Fellows receive:
Invitations to private sessions at conferences
Priority access to workshops and salons
Opportunities to connect informally with speakers and organisers
These gatherings are designed to deepen relationships and intellectual trust over time.
How Invitations Work
The Fellowship does not have an open application process.
Invitations are extended by the Thinking About Thinking team based on:
Contribution over time
Engagement across activities
Alignment with the organisation’s values
If you are interested in the Fellowship, the best way to engage is to participate through:
